Additional Details

Feiffer commentary: Mike Peters and his wife, Marion, were friends. He was an editorial cartoonist for the Dayton Daily News. His mentor Bill Mauldin helped him get the job. Mike was wild and funny. I love the way he drew. This was around the time I was working on Popeye, and it's a wonderful caricature of me as Popeye or more like Popeye's Pappy, Poopdeck Pappy. This was done in 1982, right after Mike won the Pulitzer. David Levine and I went to an Association of American Editorial Cartoonists society meeting in Washington, where we were invited to speak. Mike saw us there and said, "What are you guys doing here? We're hacks."
