MILDRED THOMPSON (1936 - 2003)
Open Window Series.

Color screenprint on cream wove paper, 1977. 565x451 mm; 22 1/4x17 3/4 inches, full margins. Artist proof, aside from an edition of an unknown size. Signed, titled, dated, inscribed "Tampa" and "Artist's Proof" in pencil, lower margin.

Another print from this scarce series, Open Window Series V,, 1977 was exhibited in the 2017 Georgia Museum of Art exhibition Expanding Tradition: Selections from the Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson Collection.

After living in Germany for 10 years, Thompson moved back to the United States in 1975 and became artist-in-residence for the City of Tampa Bay, under the support of the National Endowment for the Arts. Her screenprints echo the colorful abstract compositions of her Window Paintings series from the same time.
