beautiful copy of the first edition. inscribed and signed by miller: "For George E. Howard from Henry Miller 3/10/41 / This is the book that Laughlin aborted and called `The Cosmological Eye' without so much as asking my permission."
James Laughlin was the founder and publisher of New Directions. Though an early advocate and publisher of Miller in America, their long and personal relationship was often strained. Miller never forgave Laughlin for his editing of The Cosmological Eye and the following anthology, The Wisdom of the Heart.
