Additional Details

The Bicentennial banners were produced as part of a project initiated by the Chuck Levitan Gallery, New York, with the support of the United States Information Agency and Smithsonian Institute. The traveling exhibition comprised of 20 banners created by important American artists, such as Richard Anuszkiewicz, Will Barnet, Romare Bearden, and Chaim Gross. One set was displayed in the fountain court at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C. throughout the Bicentennial year and continued to tour the country with the Smithsonian Institute.
