inscribed and signed by miró to moma director monroe wheeler in the month of publication, in ink, across half-title. With a second copy of the book in Wheeler's possession which is accompanied by a letter that explains the subject and history of Miró's painting Portrait of a Goldsmith, and the Museum of Modern Art's reply. The painting, in the private collection of Sidney Shoenberg, St. Louis, appeared on page 16, which was also exhibited at Moma, is clarified by the subject's son as being the Catalan master silversmith Ramon Sunoyer. The portrait had been presented to Sunoyer by Miró and was lost after loaning it to art dealer Rafael Dalmau.
