Misti worked extensively for the bicycle industry, designing posters for many of the major companies including Clement, for whom he designed two posters. In this startlingly-formatted poster, one of the most striking bicycle posters ever designed, he shows a young bicyclist at night, illuminated by a Japanese lantern emblazoned with an advertisement for Clement. The way Misti plays with the orange light cast by the lantern is ravishing and proves his incredible lithographic skill. And while Misti revisited this image, in 1905, in smaller format, for the cycling magazine Le Velo illustrating the same lady's head beneath a lantern, this tall, elongated format is a jewel of design.
