MOÏSE KISLING
Portrait de femme.

Oil on canvas. 200x150 mm; 8x6 inches. Signed in oil, lower left recto. Ex-collection private collection, New York.

The current work will be included in Volume IV and Additif aux Tomes I, II and III of the catalog raisonné of Moïse Kisling currently in preparation by Jean Kisling and Marc Ottavi, Paris.

Born in Kraków, Kisling (1891-1953) moved to Paris in 1910 at the behest of his teachers after demonstrating prodigious talent at a young age. He settled in Montmartre and later in Montparnasse, where he joined a renowned community of international artists, hailing from Spain, Eastern Europe, England and the United States, among other places.

Kisling grew close with many of his contemporaries, including Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920), who lived in the same building. As he developed his personal style, he became widely known as a master of depicting women and the female figure.
