MOHAMMAD KIBRIA
Untitled (Horses).

Oil on board, 1954. 738x598 mm; 29x23 1/2 inches. Signed and dated in oil, lower left recto.

Mohammad Kibria (1929-2011) was a Bangladeshi Modernist painter who studied in both Calcutta and Tokyo and taught for 45 years at Dhaka University. He was influenced by contemporaneous Bengali artists who had studied in Europe and adopted a westernized, avant-garde style. Kibria gradually moved towards abstraction and, following studies in Japan in the early 1960s, adopted a purely abstract approach.
