Additional Details

Chicago photographers Mole & Thomas were brilliant pioneers of performance art who would travel around the country artfully configuring thousands of military men into icons of Americana, which were then shot from above. The complete titles read: "The Living Uncle Sam, 19,000 Officers and Men, Camp Lee, Va., Maj. Genl. Omar Bundy, Commdg." And, "Woodrow Wilson, 21,000 Officers and Men, Camp Sherman, Chillicothe, Ohio, Brig. Gen. Mathew C. Smith, Commanding." <
