Additional Details
The eighth part of Jonas Moore's monumental New Systeme of the Mathematicks, a work repeatedly described by Burden as "extremely rare". The present volume is the geographical world atlas portion of the larger work and the maps represent the earliest known engraved cartography of Herman Moll, one of "the best and most popular cartographers in England at the end of the seventeenth century"(Baker). Only two maps, those of Europe and America, are signed "H. Mol" in the plate, however as Burden observes, "the style is uniform throughout". The geography, largely borrowed from French and other sources, is of a beautiful style and one not commonly encountered on the market. Burden 534-539; McLaughlin 78, 79; J.N.L. Baker, The Earliest Maps of H. Moll, Imago Mundi Vol. 2, page 16.
