Additional Details

"Morgagni was the first to make a complete and systematic correlation between the symptoms of a particular disease and the anatomical lesions found on post-mortem examination . . . His treatise consisted of approximately 700 case histories and post-mortems, drawn from his own sixty years of experience and from the work of his immediate predecessors . . . Morgagni's most outstanding contribution to special pathology was his exposition of lesions of the vascular system, particularly aneurysms, whose connection with syphilis he recognized; he also recorded cases of mitral stenosis and heart block (Stokes-Adams syndrome), and described a case of angina pectoris that he had observed in 1707"--Norman 1547 (1761 original edition).
