FINANCIER OF REVOLUTION AND SIGNER NEEDS TO RAISE MONEY MORRIS, ROBERT. Two items: Document; and a Letter, each Signed, "Robt Morris, President," as President of the North American Land Company. The document, authorizing John Hoge to sell the NALC's land in Pennsylvania according to conditions set forth in the present letter. The letter, to John Hodge ("Sir"), sending the present document, describing the conditions under which sale of land may be made, and the reasons for such sale. Each additionally signed by Thomas FitzSimons, Joseph Ball, Robert Porter, and John Vaughan. The document additionally signed by his son, Robert Morris, Jr., as Secretary. Each 2 pages, folio, with integral blank; dampstaining along vertical fold of document affecting text, short separations at folds, paper seal on document intact. Philadelphia, 12; 10 April 1804

The letter: "[Y]ou shall make Sale of so much of the said lands as may be necessary to raise a sum of money not exceeding Twelve hundred Dollars by selling at such reasonable price or prices as under the existing circumstances you can obtain, not however going lower in any instance than ten Shillings per acre, and we further suppose that Two Dollars per acre will form about the average price . . . . The intention is to employ the Twelve hundred Dollars . . . in procuring Patents for the remaining Tracts of said Lands, and it is very desirable that this should be accomplished as soon as possible . . . ."
with--Partly-printed Document Signed, by William Ewing and Richard Chub, granting 400 acres of land in Pennsylvania to John Hoge for 5 Shillings. Approximately 13x8 inches. [Washington, PA], 6 May 1794.
