MOTLEY. "Ladies as Peasants" * Village Women. Together, two costume designs for a revival production of "Martha," which premiered at The Metropolitan Opera on January 26, 1961. Gouache and graphite on paper with fabric swatches. The first is 353x274 mm; 14x10 3/4 inches. Signed and dated "Motley [19]60" in lower right image. The second is 365x280 mm; 14 1/2x11 inches. Not signed or dated, but has fabric swatches. Both include additional notes at upper right and beneath figures; nicely framed.
