MOULTRIE, WILLIAM. Partly-printed Document Signed, "Will:m Moultrie," as Governor, land deed granting 125 acres "in the District of Camden [near Camden, SC]" to David McCalla. With a survey of the granted land including map, dated April 16, 1785, bound to deed with ribbon at bottom center. Approximately 11 1/2x16 inches overall; holes at intersections with some loss to text, scattered foxing, tears at folds, docketing on verso, lacking Great Seal. Charleston, 3 April 1786

Additional Details

Moultrie (1730-1805) was a Revolutionary general whose actions saved Charleston from capture in 1779, later was taken prisoner when the city fell, and, after the war, served as governor of South Carolina, 1785-87; 1794-96.
