Rising 3754 meters above sea level, 40% of Mount Cook (Aoraki, in Maori) within the Southern Alps of New Zealand's South Island is covered by a glacier. During the summer, the other 60% is ablaze with local flora and fauna, including the Mt. Cook Buttercup which is, in effect, a large mountain daisy.
