Additional Details

The map is from either the First or Second editions of the French language edition of Muenster's Cosmography. The same plate was used for the New World map in both editions. The plate itself is from the fifth state of the Latin edition of Cosmography first issued in 1550. Burden 12; Walter 8B (Latin language edition); Cortazzi, pl. 12 (dating the map to 1540).
