In the years after the First World War, Paris was still considered the center of the art world and artists from all over the globe came to settle there. Satomi was a 22 year old graphic designer when he left Japan and arrived in Paris (other Japanese artists, such as Foujita and Ogiss, had already arrived). He was lucky enough to study with Cassandre, an experience and education that made him a good Art Deco designer, and helped him obtain commissions in both France and Japan. He was forced to go back to Japan during World War II, but returned to Paris as soon possible as he "could not live without good wine." Back in Paris, he continued a long and successful career working primarily for a big Japanese confectionary company. He also worked on a steady flow of French commissions such as this poster. It is a simple and efficient image for a Health Show aimed at nutritional issues.
