The first presentation of Muybridge's work in book form in which he selected 20 plates depicting both human and animal locomotion, each bearing the printed notation "Author's Edition." His inscription, which appears on the title page, reads: "With the Warm Esteem of The Author, 31 March 1890." The volume includes plate numbers: 3, 133, 152, 174, 187, 214, 279, 289, 347, 408, 465, 471, 565, 616, 626, 647, 659, 710, 721, 739, and 755. <
