Macedo, Francisco de (1596-1681)
Vita Venerabilis Toribii Alfonsi Mogrovegii Archiepiscopi Limensis.

Padua: Typis Petri Mariae Framb[otto], 1670.

Quarto, illustrated with added engraved title and full-page portrait of the subject of the biography, Turibius of Mogrevejo; bound in nicely preserved contemporary limp parchment, contents very good, 8 x 6 in.

Saint Turibius of Mogrovejo (1538-1606) was Archbishop of Lima Peru from 1579 until his death. He also served as the Grand Inquisitor in Spain during the Inquisition. Before his life in Peru, Mogrovejo was not a member of the clergy; his ordination came directly from Pope Gregory XIII. He founded the first Catholic seminary in the Western Hemisphere and required missionaries to learn indigenous languages.
