"A GOOD SUIT OF SUMMER CLOTHES" Manuscript Slave Document, outlining the terms for hiring Negroes belonging to Thomas Winn. One page, folio; Signed by those involved; nicely matted and framed. Np, 29 December 1830

Additional Details

John Winn, the executor of Thomas Winn's estate, hires out Sam and Jenny to Mr. Thomas Woodson, adding his own slave, Dilcy, to the contract. The contract clearly spells out specifics about the clothes they are to be provided with and absolutely forbids their use "on the River or on any island." The slaves were to be provided with both winter and summer clothing, as well as shoes. At the bottom of the document is the accounting for the hire of the slaves.
