Mercury Blueprint, Cable Assy - Capsule to Heat Shield. A rare blueprint by the Mercury capsule manufacturer McDonnell Aircraft Corporation. Illustrated is one of the cable assemblies that would assist separation and deployment of the heat shield away from the capsule prior to splashdown to form the "landing bag." This "bag" would cushion the capsule impact as it hit the ocean's surface.
