Milhazes, Beatriz (b. 1960)
Coisa Linda.

New York: Library Council of The Museum of Modern Art, 2002.

Limited edition number 128 of 175 copies signed in pencil by Milhazes, square quarto, text comprising songs in Portuguese and English by 15 notable musicians including Gilberto Gil, Arto Lindsay, Marisa Monte and Caetano Veloso; illustrated with 43 screen prints and one collage on Magnani Pescia, Somerset Satin and BFK Rives papers; bound in decorated blue and gold cloth boards by Claudia Cohen; contained in the original yellow cloth slipcase (a few minor stains to slipcase); 12 x 12 in.

"Through the inclusion of lyrics from traditional and contemporary Brazilian songs, Milhazes intends Coisa Linda to engage the senses and explore the connection between music and images, a connection that is especially deep in Brazilian culture. Milhazes's exuberant abstractions respond to a range of musical sources, from words and phrases of the songs featured in the book to more general sights and sounds of the streets and samba schools of Rio de Janeiro."
