Additional Details

Note on the verso reads, "Millie Christine / Born in North Carolina / July 1851 / M. H. Depue Picture I Bought at New Jersey State Fair, at Waverly. They could speak in four languages. Sept 1885." As Siamese twins they were treated as "freaks" but regarded as valuable. Taken from their parents and sold for $200, they passed through various hands for various sums. The twins happened to be gifted with musical abilities and were able not only to sing in harmony, but also to play the piano and dance. They performed twice for Queen Victoria.
