Moleti predicts the motions of the stars using the Alphonsine tables, as opposed to the Copernican-based Prutenic tables that were introduced in 1551. He regarded these newer tables as untested. Galileo took the Chair of Mathematics position at Padua after Moleti stepped down. The two corresponded on topics of shared interest, including theories concerning the center of gravity.
