Morand's diminutive canvas draws the eye with figs, a cut melon and grapes portrayed in loose strokes with a somber palette. Born in France, she founded the Montmartre aux Artistes in the mid-20th century and won many prizes for her work in the 1940s through the '60s. In 1967, Jean Chabanon described her as an "inspired, magician of color and form."
