Kyoto and Osaka: Asano Yahei, circa 1785

Additional Details

Erroneously considered to be one of the first world maps printed in Japan, though it is probably the first widely circulated printed map. It is based in part on Matteo Ricci's Sino-centric map from the previous century. The mapping is surprisingly detailed and accurate.
