NAPOLÉON. Brief Letter Signed, "Napoleon," to Minister of the Treasury Count Mollien, in French: "Have King Charles paid for the month of July and the Queen of Etruria for the month of August." ¼ page, 4to; remnants of hinging at upper edge verso, faded notes written at middle left and lower right in unknown hand, folds. [Paris], 11 September 1808

Additional Details

The Kingdom of Etruria was created upon the signing of the Treaty of Aranjuez by Spain and France in 1801; in 1807, it was dissolved by Napoléon when it became incorporated into the French Empire.
"King Charles" is likely Charles IV of Spain, the father of Maria Luisa, Queen consort of Etruria. In April 1808, the King of Spain and the (former) Queen of Etruria fled Spain to France because of a popular uprising, making Ferdinand VII the new King of Spain.
