NAPOLEON JONES-HENDERSON (1943 - )
Yazoo Boogaloo.

Color screenprint on BFK Rives paper, 2019. 406x610 mm; 16x24 inches, full margins. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 2/4 in pencil, lower margin. Published by the artist and BENNU ARTS, LLC, and the Research Institute of African and American Diaspora Arts, Roxbury, MA.

Yazoo Boogaloo is a homage to the patrilineal side of the Jones-Henderson family from Yazoo, Mississippi. The male figures in the image represent self-respect and the respect of others imbued in his childhood. Also, the work pays tribute to the women of his family as well. The female figures represent steadfastness, warm love, and spiritual guidance. The aesthetic motif is "Visual Music," the fluidity of colors, shapes, and symbols that stimulate the senses, a term coined by the artist.
