NATALIA GONTCHAROVA (1881-1962) BAL BANAL / BAL OLYMPIQUE. Two handbill posters / programs. 1924.
Sizes vary.
Condition varies, generally A. Paper.
Gontcharova, who spent her extravagant life with Larionov, was the very rich, eccentric granddaughter of Alexander Pushkin. A Diaghilev devotee, she dedicated most of her considerable artistic talents to stage and costume design. She worked for the most prestigious theaters, operas, and ballet companies, from the revolutionary Coq d'Or of Rimsky Korsakof to her final creations for the Marquis de Cuevas Ballet in 1948. Here for two separate events in 1924 Gontcharova lends her talents, one is the poster for the Bal Banal, and on the other a design on the program for the lesser known Bal Olympique.
