NATHANIEL ALFRED OPPENHEIM INTERNATIONALE LUFTSCHIFFAHRT AUSSTELUNG. 1909.
36x23 1/2 inches. Wusten & Co., Frankfurt.
Condition B: restoration, repaired tears and overpainting in margins; creases and restoration in image.
A yellow airship, a white bi-plane and a yellow balloon are filling the sky around Frankfurt's red sandstone gothic cathedral; lettering in yellow. The bi-plane and airship are emblazoned with the initials of the organizers of the airshow, a curious suggestion of blimp advertising to follow much later in the 20th century. This was Germany's first "aeronautical exhibition " (Villard/Allen p. 37) and followed the summer when Orville Wright came to Berlin to give a flying show over Templehof Field. Villard/Allen pl. 23.
