The Peace and Freedom Party with Eldridge Cleaver for President and Bobby Seale for the California State Assembly was founded in 1967 in opposition to the Vietnam War. The Party gained enough support to run on the ballot in California in 1968. Their platform statement called for immediate withdrawal from Vietnam, support for the working people, community control of police, fair trials for minorities, and an end to income taxes on working class citizens.
