NEWTON, HUEY. The Racist Dog Policemen must Withdraw Immediately from our Communities. Poster, 28-1/2 x 22-1/2 inches, from a photograph; cloth-backed. Emeryville, California, circa 1968-1969

Additional Details

A powerful image of Huey Newton and Bobby Seale, founders of the Black Panther Party. They are standing in front of the party's storefront headquarters in Oakland--both are armed. While the FBI and local police targeted the Panthers about the arming of the Party and the community, it was a proven fact that the armed Panther street patrols successfully reduced local crime. The poster's caption message continues: ". . .cease their wanton murder and brutality and torture of black people, or face the wrath of the armed people."
