CRUSADING FOR SANITARY REFORM NIGHTINGALE, FLORENCE. Autograph Letter Signed, to Miss Craig ("My dear Madam"), responding to her questions about papers Nightingale had written that might be useful to a meeting in Edinburgh, and stating that she is finishing one in a few hours on the topic of sanitary reform in India. 3 1/4 pages, small 8vo, written on a folded sheet of mourning stationery; remnants of mounting at center vertical fold on first page, two horizontal folds. "Hampstead N.W." [London], 21 Sept 1863
". . . I am writing a paper on India Sanitary things (for your Edinburgh meeting) . . . . "I have a paper ready on the Sanitary Statistics of Colonial Native Schools & Hospitals drawn up upon returns sent out for me (to be filled up by the kindness of the Colonial Office[)]. It is printed for convenience' sake as there are many tables. Allusion was made to it, not only imperfectly but incorrectly at the Newcastle meeting of the Brit: Association. Otherwise it has never seen the light. "Would you like to have it for the Edinburg meeting? If so, I must, I believe shorten it . For, if you adhere to your rule of 20 min:, it is, I doubt [not], too long. "At the Berlin International Statistical Meeting, I exhibited some Hospital Forms for Surgical Operations (registering)--as I did 3 years ago, at the London one, for general registering of hospital cases. "At Dublin you had a paper of mine on these former tables, two years ago. "Would you like to have (similarly) these Surgical Operations Tables for Edinburgh?"
