NIKLAUS STOECKLIN (1896-1982) ANTI-SOLAIRE / BI-ORO. 1941.
50x35 inches. Wassermann, S. A. Balle.
Condition A-: minor creases and tears in marginsl archival tape on verso. Paper.
Stoecklin, whose prolific career spanned decades, constantly changed his style. In 1941 he turned towards the "Neue Sachlichkeit" (New Realism). He elevated the style to such a level in three posters Binaca, Meta-Meta and this image, that his output could well be considered "hyper-realism" or even "magic realism." Far more than skillful illustration, Stoecklin also depicts the product in a dramatic way, creating a hypnotizing still life. Here it is the two diagonals that cross in the middle of the image, a magical "X" of the sun cream and the sun glasses. Schweiz p. 161.
