NIKOLAI PRUSAKOV (1900-1952) AND GRIGORI BORISOV (1899-1942) [CIRCUS POMMERA.] Circa 1928.
55 1/4x21 inches, 140x53 cm.
Condition B / B+: expertly restored losses and overpainting in bottom margin and text; repaired tears and overpainting in upper right corner and along right edge. Two-sheets.
Prusakov "designed theatre and film posters, books, set designs and exhibitions . . . in 1928 he collaborated with El Lissitsky on the design of the Pressa Exhibition in Cologne, Germany" (Pack p. 304). He frequently designed posters with Borisov. It is interesting to juxtapose this poster with the image by Belsky in the following lot. Both posters are for the same movie, both depict virtually the same image of the man, both are two-sheet posters and yet this image makes no allusion to the "circus" in the movie's title.
