Prior to joining the Ballets Suédois (Swedish Ballet) in 1920, Börlin was a student of the great Russian choreographer Michel Fokine. In 1918 Fokine settled in Denmark and Börlin came to join him there and perform. Dardel was a Swedish painter. "He lived in Paris in the twenties and rubbed shoulders with the members of the Paris school and Parisian intellectuals of his generation. Born . . . into an aristocratic family, Dardel was to be one of the really great names in Swedish painting. He created the sets for the Nuit de Saint-Jean and Maison de Fous, and he and his wife Thora, a writer, were friends and important advisers to the Ballets Suédois" (Ballets Suedois p. 294). rare.
