"MY HUSBAND . . . DOES NOT KNOW OF THE EXISTENCE OF" THE STORY OF HENRY AND JUNE NIN, ANAÏS. Autograph Letter Signed, to "Dear Mr. Goldberg," correcting her previous statement to him that the then-new edition of her Winter of Artifice was complete by pointing out that "Part One" had been removed for personal reasons [and that discussing this with her husband nearby would have been awkward]. 1 page, 4to; folds. Np, 1945?

Additional Details

"I want to tell you how much I regretted misinforming you at the Gotham party. You asked if this edition of Winter of Artifice was complete, like the first, and I said yes. My husband was standing very near you and he does not know of the existence of the Part One in the Paris Edition. You will understand if you have read the original edition. The truth is this reprinted version was entirely revised for personal reasons, and all I can hope is that you . . . forgive me . . . ."
The "Paris Edition" of Winter of Artifice, published in 1939, included a novella entitled Djuna, which does not appear in future editions of the book, whose story would eventually be published as Henry and June--Nin's account of her own sexual relationship with Henry and June Miller.
