Rongbut Monastery (Shangri-La) was base camp for the expedition members on their first climb of Everest in 1922, and may have been the real-life inspiration for James Hilton's 1933 novel "Lost Horizon." Captain John Noel served as the expedition's official photographer and filmmaker.
