scarce first edition, second thousand. Although the Swedish Antarctic Expedition of 1901-04 accomplished a fair amount of scientific research and geographical discovery, it is best remembered for its ship the Antarctic being crushed in the ice of Erebus and Terror Gulf and the party forced to winter on Paulet Island before eventually being rescued by an Argentine ship. The first edition published in Swedish is a scarce book and is difficult to find with the decorative binding, which is prone to discoloration, in good condition. Rosove 239.A3; Spence 856; Taurus 31.

From the library of Dr. John M. Levinson, with his bookplate.
