This expressive and richly colored composition is an excellent example of Norman Lewis's work on paper in mid-career form. Showing his growing exploration of color field abstration, this bold work is one of his more painterly compositions on paper - with dashing, broad brush strokes of color.

The paper size is the largest format that the artist used for works on paper. The sheet also has the printed Inkweed Arts illustrations on the verso - found on many Lewis works on paper from the late 1950s and 1960s.
