NORMAN LEWIS (1909 - 1979)
Woman.

Lithograph on cream wove paper, circa 1944. 203x375 mm; 8x14 3/4 inches, full margins. Proof. Signed, titled, and dated "Nov-6-1949" in pencil, lower right. Signed, titled, dated and inscribed "Litho-$25-139 W. 125 St, NYC. 27. NY" in ink, mat verso. A very good, dark impression of this extremely scarce prrint.

Provenance: Bertha Schaeffer Gallery, New York, with the label on the mat, verso, the estate of Robert L. Zarbock, Escondido, California; private collection.

This early abstracted figure by Norman Lewis appears to be a wonderful interpretation in lithography of the figure in lot 33. This Ruth Fine included two proofs of this lithograph in the retrospective Procession: The Art of Norman Lewis, both printed on sheets of the The New York Times. We have not located any other impressions. Fine 17; p. 138.
