NORMAN WILKINSON THE IRISH MAIL AT HOLYHEAD.
40x50 inches. McCorquodale, London.
Condition B+: repaired tears, wrinkles and crease in margins, some affecting image.
The Cambria, at nighttime, is docked and awaiting mail delivery from a London train. The Irish Royal Mail (supposedly the world’s first named train) began its run in 1848 and, today, the line still carries the mail between London and Holyhead, a port on the Isle of Anglesey, Wales.
