O. LOUIS GUGLIELMI
Tumblers.

Pencil on cream wove paper, circa 1941. 355x273 mm; 14x11 inches. Signed in pencil, lower left. Repaired 3-inch diagonal tear, lower right corner, well outside the image.

John Baker, the Guglielmi expert, has confirmed the authenticity of this early drawing. Possibly a study for the same-titled painting, once considered lost, which sold recently at Sotheby's, New York, March 1, 2006.

Considered by the artist to be one of his best works, the painting replaces this drawing's pastoral landscape, which relates to his earlier work, with a storefront and sidewalk.
