Inscribed "Bought direct from Madame Redon" with additional annotations by Earl L. Cushman in pencil, verso. Time stain. A brilliant, richly-inked impression of this extremely scarce print.
Ari was Redon's second son, born in 1889. His first son, Jean, born in May 1886, died in infancy at only 6 months old.
We have not found another impression of the first state at auction in the past 20 years and we locate only 2 other impressions of the second state at auction in the same time. Mellerio 170.
