Etching printed in dark reddish brown on cream laid paper, circa 1880. 123x84 mm; 4 7/8x3 1/4 inches, wide margins. Second state (of 2), after the reduction of the plate. Ex-collection unknown collector, ink stamp with the initial K verso (not in Lugt). A very good impression of this scarce etching.
According to Harrison, "In 1878 Redon went to Holland to study the works of Rembrandt. Three of the heads on Croquis are copies from Rembrandt etchings. . . The woman at the top and the old man at the right are from Beggars Receiving Alms (Bartsch 176). The head at the lower left is from The Flute Player (Bartsch 188)." Mellerio 13.
