ODILON REDON
Tête d'enfant avec fleurs.

Lithograph on chine volant, 1897. 318x247 mm; 125/8x93/4 inches, full margins. Proof, aside from the edition of 50 on chine appliqué and the reduction of the image. Titled by the artist's wife in pencil, lower left, and annotated by Earl L. Cushman in pencil, lower center. A superb impression of this scarce, early proof.

According to Cushman's pencil notes, this print was purchased "direct from Madame Redon thru Walter Pach." The latter was in charge of sales for the International Exhibition of Modern Art in New York, also called the Armory Show, in 1913, and in this position oversaw the sale of some 30 prints by Redon (more than any other artist in the exhibition). This subject is listed as one of the Redon prints sold at the Armory Show (see Milton W. Brown, The Story of the Armory Show, NewYork, 1988, pp. 307-9). Mellerio 169.
