ODIN ROSENVINGE (1880-1957) FRANCONIA FROM MONACO / CUNARD LINE. 1932.
39 3/4x24 1/4 inches, 101x61 1/2 cm.
Condition A: minor restoration at edges.
As there were several ships named Franconia, and Rosenvinge illustrates only an exotic destination and not the vessel itself, it is initially difficult to determine if this poster is advertising a trip around the world on the first Franconia (which was torpedoed and sunk in 1916), or on the second Franconia which sailed for Cunard from 1922-1956. However, a brochure "Around the World in the Franconia" from 1932, lists arrival in Monaco on January 21st and departure on the 23rd, making the latter Franconia the subject here. This wonderfully-colored image impresses the viewer as much with its technical skill as it does with the exotic nature of the landscape. A variation exists with text at bottom advertising "Winter Cruises." rare.
