For this historic interpretation of the trials of travel in days prior to the railway, Hanson provides an expertly textured image. The distant lights, the slanted rain, the pattern of the woman's dress, the decorative design of the puddles, and the mottled colors of the horses are an exceptional medley of design elements. And throughout the design Hanson has woven splashes of bright color. In 1927 Hanson won the Medal and Barron Collier Prize (posthumously) from the Art Directors Club.
