OSCAR RABE HANSON (1901-1926) OVER THE TRAILS OF THE COVERED WAGONS / THE NORTH SHORE LINE. 1926.
42x28 1/2 inches. Illinois Litho, Chicago.
Condition B+: restored loss in lower left corner; restoration along vertical and horizontal folds.
A splash of autumnal colors with a team of oxen pulling a covered wagon through a magnificent countryside. Hanson's "golden colors and pastoral images evoked heartland content." (Zega p. 95). "Among the South Shore artists, Oscar Rabe Hanson received the most honor. His studio, in Chicago's Fine Arts Building, also housed Frederic Willard Elmes [who went on to great renown designing posters for Charles Mather] and Arthur A. Johnson . . . in 1926, Hanson's studio moved to 'Towertown' (near the famed Chicago Water Tower)." (Moonlight in Duneland p. 3).
