Kubín (1883-1969) was a Czech painter and sculptor born in Boskovice, Moravia, Austria-Hungary. Influenced by Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, he adopted an Impressionist style and emigrated to France in the early 1910s.

Along with Emil Filla and Bohumil Kubišta, he was a member of the Expressionist Osma group (1907-1908) and in 1913 exhibited in Herwarth Walden's "Erster Deutscher Herbstsalon," Berlin. Once in France, he became friends with Pablo Picasso and exhibited frequently at the at the Salon des Indépendants, Paris, as well as throughout Europe.
